The second Test match between India and England is all set to take place from February 2 to 6, 2024 at the Dr YSR ACA VDCA Stadium in Vizag. The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is leaving no stone unturned in preparing for this thrilling encounter. In order to facilitate easy access to tickets for cricket enthusiasts, the online sale of tickets will commence on January 15, followed by offline sales starting from January 26.
It’s worth mentioning that the PM Palem stadium has previously hosted only two Test matches. The city had the privilege of hosting its first Test between India and England in November 2016, which was followed by another Test match in October 2019 between India and South Africa. India emerged victorious in both these matches. After a gap of almost four and a half years, Vizag is once again ready to host a red-ball cricket match.
Anticipation is high for this Test match, considering the extended period since Vizag last hosted such an event. Moreover, this five-match series is a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The Indian squad for the match has already been announced and boasts the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and K.L. Rahul. With such star-studded line-ups, a significant number of spectators are expected to attend the match, making it a massive hit, according to an ACA member.
In a remarkable decision, ACA Secretary, S.R. Gopinath Reddy, shared that around 2,000 college students will be granted free entry to the match upon presenting their ID cards. The association is even considering accommodating more students if possible.
To enhance convenience, the ACA is introducing digital ticketing for the first time. Previously, spectators who purchased online tickets had to visit counters for redemption. However, with the new digital system in place, ticket redemption is no longer necessary. Additionally, spectators will be issued passes upon entering the stadium, allowing them to exit and re-enter as per their convenience, a privilege specifically available for Test matches. Mr Gopinath Reddy also assured that food, water, and sanitation arrangements will be well taken care of during the event.
As for the ticket prices, the ACA has fixed them at ₹100, ₹200, ₹300, and ₹500 for each day of the Test match, while the prices for the entire five days are set at ₹400, ₹800, ₹1,000, and ₹1,500. Tickets can be booked through the Paytm app or insider.in website. Offline tickets will be available for sale at Dr YSR ACA VDCA Stadium, PM Palem, and Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium, Resapuvanipalem.
