Introduction:

In recent years, the production and sale of illegal liquor have gained significant traction in the rural areas surrounding Visakhapatnam, prompting authorities to implement proactive measures to tackle this pressing issue. This article highlights the concerning rise of illegal liquor manufacturing in these villages, as well as the steps being taken to contain this illicit practice.

The Proliferation of Illegal Liquor Manufacturing

Motivation for Engaging in Illicit Liquor Production

In several surrounding villages, the manufacturing of illegal liquor has become a booming business due to the allure of substantial financial gains with minimal effort. The desire to make quick and easy money has led to the emergence of makeshift liquor manufacturing units in the cottage industry.

Authorities’ Response to Counteract Illegal Liquor Manufacturing

Previously, authorities did not heed much attention in countering the establishment of illegal liquor outlets. However, with the impending election schedule and the intensifying political atmosphere in the district, the Enforcement Bureau (SEV) officials have heightened their vigilance to prevent unauthorized liquor sales and the manufacturing of illicit liquor in rural villages.

Identifying and Combating Illegal Liquor Operations

Detection and Seizure Methods

In the past, illicit liquor was brewed clandestinely in secluded areas, such as distant villages and remote gardens, using rudimentary pot stills hidden behind bushes. By closely tracking pavements, smoke, and water trails, the SEV crews became adept at identifying these makeshift distilleries. Presently, offenders have become more cautious and are using small quantities of liters juice carriers.

Villages where Illegal Liquor Manufacturing is predominant

Within the Narsipatnam Municipality, Pedaboddepalli has emerged as a hub for the production and sale of illegal liquor. Additionally, the villages of Vemulapudi in Narsipatnam Mandal, Appannadorapalem, and Paidipala in Makavarapalem Mandal are recognized for their involvement in illicit liquor manufacturing. Furthermore, there are several other villages across the district with a reputation for producing illegal liquor.

Proactive Measures and Legal Action

Under the directives of superiors, officials are diligently investigating the existence of liquor chain stores and ensuring their accurate operations. If any non-compliance is discovered, appropriate legal action is being taken based on gathered information and registered cases.

Efforts to Tackle Drug Trafficking and Addiction

Combating Ganja Transportation

In addition to curbing illegal liquor production, authorities are also focusing on controlling the transportation of ganja in the district. Efforts have resulted in the arrest of 581 individuals involved in 818 cases of ganja transportation last year, with a total seizure of 8280 kg of marijuana. Currently, surveillance is being conducted in 68 villages to address this issue effectively.

Collaboration for Enhanced Intelligence

As drug addiction becomes increasingly prevalent, top officials recommend greater information exchange between central and state intelligence agencies. This collaborative approach aims to tackle the growing cannabis trade, as evidenced by the seizure of cannabis in 35 cases under the jurisdiction of Narsipatnam SEB station. Previously, neighboring Alluri district authorities disrupted ganja plantations and dismantled related machinery.

Conclusion:

To discourage vulnerable individuals from resorting to easy money-making options such as illegal liquor manufacturing, the government’s focus on providing empowerment opportunities is paramount. By implementing proactive measures and cracking down on offenders, authorities aspire to contain this illegal practice and safeguard the well-being of rural communities in Vizag suburban villages.
