India’s 75th Republic Day a Significant Milestone

India is set to march towards its 75th Republic Day on January 26, marking a significant milestone in the country’s history and the path to progress it has laid for itself over the course of last 75 years. This annual celebration holds historical importance, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950. While India gained independence in 1947, it was on this day that the Constitution came into effect, officially declaring the country a sovereign state and a republic.

The Constituent Assembly, which held its sessions from December 9, 1946, to November 26, 1949, played a crucial role in drafting the Constitution. Dr. BR Ambedkar led the Drafting Committee, and the day also holds significance as Constitution Day in India.

Republic Day is marked by vibrant celebrations across the nation. The President of India unfurls the national flag, followed by impressive military and cultural pageantry. The occasion is also an opportunity to honor deserving civilians with Padma Awards, while brave soldiers are recognized with Paramvir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, and Vir Chakra. The Republic Day Parade, a highlight of the festivities, is broadcasted and webcasted to reach millions of viewers.

75th Republic Day Parade Timings:

The theme for the Republic Day 2024 parade is ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka,’ emphasizing India’s role as a nurturer of democracy. The parade is scheduled to commence at 10:30 am on January 26 at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, with an expected duration of approximately 90 minutes. The venue has a seating capacity of 77,000, including 42,000 seats for the general public. French President Emmanuel Macron is the Chief Guest this year, and the parade will feature a 95-member marching contingent and a 33-member band contingent from France, adding an international dimension to the celebrations, as a sign of strengthening ties with France.
